Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, the Archbishop of Philadelphia, announced plans to address the media following the death of Pope Francis. Archbishop Pérez will be available at 10:00 a.m. on April 21, 2025, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. He will also lead a Mass for the happy repose of Pope Francis's soul and in thanksgiving for his service.
The Mass is scheduled to take place at 12:05 p.m. on the same day at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, which is also the Shrine of Saint Katherine Drexel and the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Archbishop Pérez will preside over the service.
"All people of goodwill are invited to participate in person or via live streaming video in prayerful solidarity with Catholics throughout the world as they mourn the death of Pope Francis," stated the Archbishop.
The Mass will be available for live streaming on the Archdiocesan Vimeo site, as well as on the Facebook pages of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Archbishop Pérez.
For the press, a mult-box providing program and clean feeds from the Cathedral's multi-camera setup will be available, requiring a live truck or recording device. Access to the mult-box is available via the 17th Street entrance of the Cathedral.
