Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
The Catholic Diocese of Wichita is mourning the loss of Pope Francis, who passed away recently. The diocese joins the global Catholic community in expressing sorrow and faith in the Resurrection as articulated by Bishop Carl A. Kemme.
"Pope Francis was a man of great faith, a servant of God who walked closely with the poor, the marginalized, and those in need of mercy," said Bishop Kemme. He emphasized that Pope Francis' leadership highlighted love, mercy, and justice, urging Christians to care for one another, especially those less fortunate.
Pope Francis' tenure was notable for his emphasis on simplicity and mercy, as well as his commitment to peace and justice. His encyclical, Evangelii Gaudium, inspired the Church to adopt a renewed spirit of evangelization. "His witness to the Gospel was not confined to words but was powerfully displayed through his actions," Bishop Kemme remarked, mentioning Pope Francis' dedication to embracing the sick and comforting the sorrowful.
Bishop Kemme, personally connected to Pope Francis who appointed him as Bishop of Wichita, commented on the Pope's legacy. "As we grieve his passing, let us also celebrate his remarkable legacy of faith and service," he said. He called on the faithful of the Diocese of Wichita to pray for Pope Francis' soul and for the College of Cardinals, as they prepare to elect a new Pope.
In memory of Pope Francis, Bishop Kemme invited all parishes in the diocese to celebrate Masses for the repose of the Pope's soul. The Bishop concluded with a prayer: "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen."
