Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
Archbishop Shelton has shared his Easter message, centering on the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad! For Jesus Christ our Lord has Risen!" the message begins, emphasizing the joy and importance of the event.
The Archbishop referenced the significance of the resurrection within the faith tradition, quoting, "Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God through his paschal mystery, for dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life" from the General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar. He encouraged believers to "keep before us the image of the empty tomb," which serves as a portrayal of Jesus Christ's triumph over death.
In his message, Archbishop Shelton also reflected on the Jubilee Year of Hope, noting that Jesus' resurrection "is the source of joyful hope and rejoicing." He urged individuals to address the needs and issues that their communities face and to "bring life and hope to others and to the world."
Archbishop Shelton invoked the intercession of the Mother of God, stating, "May the Mother of God, through her never-failing intercession, always watch over our diverse communities as we strive to do the work of her Son in this world." He concluded by wishing a sacred Easter season to all and expressing his commitment to praying for the community, requesting prayers in return.
"The Lord is risen! Alleluia!! Alleluia!!" was the closing affirmation of the message, expressing the Archbishop's joy and celebration of Easter.
