The Office of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Newark has announced the permanent closure of Aquinas Academy in Livingston and Visitation Academy in Paramus. The schools will close on June 30, 2025, marking the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.

This decision follows years of financial challenges and declining student enrollment at both institutions. Barbara Dolan, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, stated: "We recognize the impact of this news on students, families, faculty, and the entire school communities at both Aquinas Academy and Visitation Academy, both of which leave behind strong and decades-long legacies of faith and academic excellence. Moving forward, our goal is to honor these extraordinary legacies while continuing to support students and families and all of those affected by these difficult but necessary closures."

The Office of Catholic Schools aims to ensure a smooth transition for everyone affected. There will be informational meetings, scheduled for the week of April 28, to aid students and parents in finding alternative educational opportunities and provide guidance for the upcoming academic year.

Furthermore, the Office will support faculty and staff by identifying potential roles within its network of Catholic schools, as well as offering resources for job searches at nearby institutions.

The Archdiocese of Newark oversees 67 Catholic schools catering to almost 22,000 students across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties, continuing to build leadership and future opportunities for more than a century.
