Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has announced a new sponsorship for its live streaming broadcast of the Sunday Mass, held at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) has stepped in as the official sponsor for this event.
The live broadcast reaches a sizable audience both locally and globally, providing a spiritual connection for those unable to physically attend Mass. "I am deeply grateful to the Catholic Charities Appeal for their generosity," stated Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez. "Thanks to this great gift, we are able to significantly improve the spiritual lives of our sisters and brothers who are not able to gather at the Lord’s table in person."
The live streaming initiative was originally launched in March 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a means to maintain a religious connection during a time when in-person gatherings were not possible. In November 2021, the Archdiocese introduced the "Nothing Compares to Being There" initiative, encouraging parishioners to return to in-person attendance, while still maintaining the live stream for those unable to attend.
The President of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Charities Appeal, Mr. Ernest Russom, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "Through the generosity of our donors, the Appeal allows the Archdiocese to bring nutrition, clothing, education, and hope to one of every five people who live in Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is an honor to extend our support of the Archdiocese as it provides spiritual nutrition to our region."
These streaming services continue to meet the needs of those excused from in-person attendance due to illness or health risks, despite the push for in-person participation.
