Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
The annual Pontifical Good Friday Collection is scheduled to take place during the Good Friday liturgies on April 18. This collection is aimed at supporting the work of the Church in the Holy Land.
"The Christians in the Holy Land, especially during this challenging time, need your support and prayers," wrote Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre in his letter. Due to the ongoing armed conflict in the region, many families are facing significant challenges, such as displacement, unemployment, and financial struggles.
The contributions from the collection will aid various initiatives and projects. Among these are 74 sanctuaries and shrines, 29 parishes, and 16 schools educating more than 10,000 students. Additionally, the donations will support university scholarships, healthcare facilities, friars preparing for the priesthood, and aid refugees from Syria to Lebanon, and throughout the West Bank, Cyprus, and Rhodes.
"The Pontifical Good Friday Collection offers all Catholics an opportunity to express their solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land," the Archbishop stated, emphasizing that contributions can significantly impact those affected by war, violence, and instability.
Archbishop Fabre closed his letter with appreciation, saying, "Thank you for your generosity and your prayers!"
The faithful are encouraged to contribute and assist in ensuring the continuation of the Church's mission in the Holy Land.
