The third scrutiny for the Elect is scheduled for Sunday, April 6. The focus of the reading will be from the biblical story of Jesus resurrecting Lazarus, showing Himself as the resurrection and the life.
This last scrutiny aims to deepen the awareness of sin among the Elect, so they can uncover, heal, and strengthen themselves in preparation for their initiation into the Church during the Easter Vigil.
The Diocese of Orlando suggests this is an opportunity for the faithful to reflect on their own spiritual state during this time of penance to ensure they are ready for Easter. Bruce Croteau, Director of Worship at the Diocese, highlights the importance of example in evangelization. “Perhaps the greatest evangelization is our example. On the night before He died, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and said, ‘Do you realize what I have done for you? … I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do’ (Jn 13:12),” Croteau states.
Lent, according to Croteau, not only involves internal spiritual reflections but also encourages outward actions, paralleling the journey of Jesus during His 40 days in the desert. “May it please God to be our journey as well,” Croteau adds.
