On March 12, St. Mary’s School in Littleton celebrated a significant milestone for its principal, Fr. de Cendra, who recently became a U.S. citizen. The school organized a special assembly where students greeted him with American flags and chants of "U.S.A." The event included prayer, the school's mission statement, and a rendition of "God Bless America" sung by the students.

During his speech, Fr. de Cendra spoke about the importance of piety and the responsibilities that come with citizenship. He expressed his gratitude for being part of the country and encouraged others to honor and serve their nation. “Out of gratitude for being adopted by this beautiful country, I will have to grow in piety… I invite you to honor your country, to serve your country, and to die for your country,” he stated.

Vice Principal Joyce Russell remarked on the unity and joy within the St. Mary’s community during this celebration. “We have so much to celebrate,” she said. “Every time someone walks through our doors, they see the excitement of our students — and this moment was a symbol of hope.”

The event coincided with St. Mary Parish and School's observance of the “Jubilee of the Beating Heart,” aligning with both the school’s mission and Fr. de Cendra’s personal journey. “God is confirming our mission here,” Fr. de Cendra commented, adding that citizenship is a sign of divine providence.

For those at St. Mary’s, Fr. de Cendra's new citizenship status represents more than just legal recognition; it symbolizes hope, mission fulfillment, and belonging within the community. Patricia Kruse, a kindergarten teacher at the school, praised him as a leader dedicated to guiding students toward sainthood.

Although Fr. de Cendra has completed his path to citizenship, he remains committed to his mission: leading souls to Christ through daily interactions at Mass and with each student.
