The Black Student Association (BSA) at Christian Brothers University is working to rebuild its presence on campus and create a welcoming environment for all students. Led by President Essence Jenkins and Vice President Manning Davis, the organization aims to provide support for students who may feel isolated.

Essence Jenkins noted that while BSA was already established when she arrived, the impact of COVID-19 had caused it to lose momentum. "We’ve heard stories and seen social media posts about how big and active BSA used to be," Jenkins said. "Our goal is to make it even bigger and better than before."

Davis emphasized the importance of creating a safe space where everyone feels comfortable attending events. "This is at the heart of what we do—we want everyone to feel welcome," he said.

BSA's activities include social gatherings, discussion forums, and service projects in the Memphis community. Recently, they organized a week dedicated to giving back, which included volunteering at local elementary schools and conducting a donation drive.

Under the leadership of Jenkins and Davis, with support from CBU’s Division of Student Affairs, BSA continues to serve as a home away from home for many students by fostering belonging and service.

Collin Boyd contributed this report as part of Buc Achieves, highlighting student organizations within the CBU community.
