DePaul University's College of Law has received a significant financial boost through a $2.5 million gift from alumnus Jack Martin. This donation will establish the Jack Martin Endowed Chair, supporting faculty teaching and research in constitutional law, human rights law, immigration law, and related public policy issues.

“DePaul is unique in its mission to provide educational access to all, support leading scholarship, and offer students a real-world education that connects academia with professional life and community service,” stated DePaul President Robert L. Manuel. He emphasized the importance of alumni like Martin who support academic freedom.

Martin's relationship with DePaul University dates back to his student years when he earned his bachelor's degree in 1958 and a law degree in 1961. His career included serving as Vice President–General Counsel of Ford Motor Company. After retiring, he dedicated time to volunteering at Gulfcoast Legal Services in Florida, representing undocumented immigrants.

Interim Dean Julie Lawton of the College of Law highlighted Martin's role as a model for faculty and students: “His lifetime of support for his alma mater aids faculty members who contribute to legal scholarship and engage in public discourse.”

Martin's philanthropic efforts are also evident through his involvement with Ford’s pro bono program, the Civil Justice Reform Group, and other initiatives aimed at providing legal aid and advocating for reform.

Commenting on immigration issues, Martin remarked: “These are hard days for immigrants. It is clear that immigration laws, regulations and enforcement policies are in need of reform.”

Throughout his career, Martin has been recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to the legal community, including accolades from the American Bar Association and National Legal Aid organizations.

DePaul University College of Law remains committed to offering opportunities that prepare students for careers within Chicago's legal landscape. The institution provides various programs including JD, Master of Laws (LLM), and Master of Legal Studies (MLS).
