Bishop Robert Barron and Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., have expressed their support for the recent Executive Order signed by President Trump, titled "Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports." The order aims to protect opportunities for women and girls to compete in sports under safe and fair conditions.

The bishops stated, “We welcome the President’s Executive Order that protects opportunities for women and girls to compete in sports safely and fairly.” They emphasized the importance of policies that uphold human dignity and ensure equal treatment between men and women. This includes affirming the biological distinctions between genders as recognized by the Catholic Church.

The Executive Order is designed to maintain the principles of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which guarantees equal educational opportunities for women and girls. The bishops reiterated their commitment to these principles, aligning with Catholic teachings on gender equality.

“The Catholic Church teaches, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms: ‘Man and woman have been created, which is to say, willed by God: on the one hand, in perfect equality as human persons; on the other, in their respective beings as man and woman,’” they said. Athletics are seen not only as a means for education but also as a celebration of human physicality as a divine gift.
