The Catholic Diocese of Wichita has announced the completion of its collection of icons representing all 37 doctors of the Catholic Church. This unique collection is permanently displayed at the Spiritual Life Center (SLC), and it is reportedly the only one of its kind.

The original set of 33 icons was made possible by a donation from Bob and Helen Bergkamp, who commissioned Ann Torrini from St. Louis, Missouri, to create these icons on wood. The project took three years to complete. Following this, four new doctors were declared by recent popes, prompting the SLC directors to commission additional icons. These were created by local iconographer Mark Miller.

On January 16, the final piece featuring St. Irenaeus of Lyon was added to complete the collection.

For those interested in iconography, the SLC will be hosting an icon writing retreat from July 13-18. More information can be found at www.slcwichita.org.
