Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R.21). However, the Senate did not achieve the 60-vote threshold required for its version (S.6). Bishop Daniel E. Thomas of Toledo, who serves as chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Pro-Life Activities, commented on the situation.
"The House of Representatives took decisive action to protect innocent babies from infanticide," Bishop Thomas stated. He expressed concern over situations where "babies are being left to die after failed abortions – denied care and basic human compassion." Bishop Thomas criticized the Senate's failure to pass what he described as "necessary, common-sense legislation" that aims to protect infants born alive without restricting abortion.
