Wichita artist E. Vincent Wood III has unveiled this year's stewardship image, depicting the story of The Good Samaritan. Prints of this artwork, along with images from the past two years, are available for purchase at ArtAndFrame.com. Previous images include depictions of Jesus reaching out to Mary Magdalene and inviting viewers to follow him. These prints are signed and numbered by Wood and can be shipped or picked up at The Frame Shop in Wichita.

Wood collaborates closely with Audrey Ronnfeldt in developing the annual stewardship theme and image. “We’re in conversation almost monthly leading up to the concept for the year,” said Wood. Their discussions intensified around mid-July when they focused on the story of The Good Samaritan.

Wood expressed excitement about portraying this parable, stating, “I could see paintings that I think would be dramatic.” He reflected on Jesus' concluding question in the parable: "Who was a neighbor to this man?" which resonated deeply with both him and Ronnfeldt.

The creative process took an unexpected turn when Fr. John Jirak, pastor of Church of the Magdalen Parish, encountered the same passage while preparing a Gospel reading for Year B. This coincidence reinforced their vision for the artwork.

Wood emphasized that he saw himself as "the one beaten down by the side of the road" in need of compassion from Christ. He also highlighted how Jesus challenged societal norms by making a Samaritan—a group considered impure—an example of mercy.

In creating this year's painting, Wood sought to evoke emotions akin to Michelangelo’s Pieta while incorporating familiar themes from art history. He typically presents three ideas to a stewardship team before finalizing his work.

“My goal in making these artworks is to stir the heart,” Wood stated, acknowledging his artistic talent as a gift beyond his control: “My life has been literally a grace upon grace upon grace.”

Reflecting on his journey as an artist, Wood recognized numerous opportunities shaped by what he describes as God's hand guiding him through various invitations and experiences.
