Two students from the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University were recognized by Insurance Insider at its annual US Honors ceremony on September 19 in Manhattan, NY. The event celebrates excellence in the insurance, reinsurance, and actuarial sciences sectors.

Abigail O’Neill, a senior majoring in Actuarial Science from New Berlin, WI, and William Lai, a senior majoring in Risk Management and Insurance from Fresh Meadows, NY, received the St. John’s Award. This accolade is given to students who excel academically with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, complete an industry internship with distinction, and show leadership in insurance-related activities.

Both students are set to graduate in May. They were chosen for the award by faculty and administration from the Greenberg School and each received a $1,500 scholarship.

During her time at St. John’s University, Abigail interned at SOMPO's Manhattan office and will join their actuarial trainee program full-time after graduation. She credited University Career Services for helping her secure the internship: “St. John’s has helped me to kick-start my career,” she said.

William interned at Everest Re's reinsurance and underwriting department and will continue working there post-graduation. He expressed his appreciation for his education: “St. John’s is the very foundation of everything I have learned in the insurance industry,” he stated.
