The Dominican Sisters of Springfield recently concluded their general chapter, setting the direction for the congregation's coming years. The chapter focused on interculturality and collaborative Dominican future under the theme 'For the life of the world.'
In a statement, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield expressed their commitment to intercultural living and participative Dominican governance as they look ahead to the next five years. They emphasized the importance of strengthening relationships within the congregation, welcoming and supporting new members, and building intercultural relationships through study and engagement.
Sister Rebecca Ann Gemma, the current prioress general of the congregation, highlighted the continuation and strengthening of their efforts in antiracism and responding to environmental challenges. She emphasized the desire to live interculturally as a powerful gospel witness.
Regarding the future of Dominican governance, the sisters affirmed their dedication to moving towards a collaborative form of governance within the Dominican family. Sister Rose Miriam Schulte, OP, noted the ongoing conversations about reshaping the future of Dominican life through collaboration.
The chapter also saw the election of a new leadership team who will assume their roles on June 15, 2024. The team comprises Sisters Mary Paul McCaughey, OP, as prioress general-elect; Sister Joanne Delehanty, OP, as vicaress general-elect; and Sister Elyse Marie Ramirez, OP, and Sister Kathlyn Mulcahy, OP, as second and third councilors-elect.
