Altar servers from across Tucson recently came together for a day of faith-based fellowship at the Chancery during the "Aloysius Fest" retreat. The event, named after Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, aimed to foster camaraderie among altar servers and provide them with spiritual guidance and inspiration.

"Our primary objective is to foster fellowship among altar servers," said Fr. Alan Valencia, director of vocations. The retreat included collective prayer, discussions on the importance of serving, reflections on Scriptures, and various enjoyable activities for the youth participants.

Father Abundio Colazo-Lopez, assistant director for vocations, emphasized the significance of serving during Mass and the call to be an altar server. He highlighted the importance of vocational discernment, stating that it is something all young people need to do to understand how God is calling them to serve.

Seminarian Carlos Nagore spoke about diocesan priesthood, while Father Manu Franco-Gomez and Sister Gladys Echenique shared insights on religious life with the attendees. Sister Mary Ann Spanjers led a discussion with high school teens about priesthood, religious life, and the importance of making decisions.

The retreat also featured a friendly rally where priests and seminarians competed against the altar servers, engaging in challenges related to their roles during Mass. The day culminated in all attendees serving at a special Mass with Bishop Weisenburger.

Youth who participated in the retreat had the opportunity to connect with peers, celebrate their service to the Catholic Church, and engage in fellowship centered on faith. The event provided a platform for altar servers to grow in their spiritual journey and deepen their commitment to serving the Church.

The Aloysius Fest retreat in Tucson was a meaningful experience for altar servers, offering them a chance to come together, learn, and celebrate their faith. As the event concluded, the participants left with renewed enthusiasm and a stronger sense of community.
