Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) condemned threats and attacks against pregnancy centers and churches.

These attacks have occurred since the draft opinion of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization was leaked to the media.

"There have been at least 40 violent attacks on crisis pregnancy centers, religious institutions, and other pro-life entities since the Dobbs leak and before the court even issued its final opinion," Grassley said on his website. "This violence continues to cause injury, damage to property, and interruption of constitutionally protected worship services all across the nation."

The number of incidents substantially increased after the Supreme Court officially announced its ruling in late June. Grassley called on police to pursue the vandals and assailants accordingly.

"Our law enforcement officers are obliged to duly enforce the laws of our country – not just those that are politically suitable to the current administration," he said. "I will remain steadfast in ensuring that the law is being enforced equally across the ideological spectrum. Current threats from abortion extremists are impending, serious, and dangerous."

The Supreme Court issued its 6-3 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on June 24. The ruling returns power to the states to determine the legality of abortion.

Justice Samuel Alito summed up the reasoning behind the court’s decision.

"The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment," Alito's legal opinion said, as CNBC reported. "It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people's elected representatives."

Grassley, who is the Senate Judiciary Committee's ranking member, sent a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray about threats and violence being perpetrated by pro-abortion extremist groups such as Jane's Revenge and Ruth Sent Us. In the letter, Grassley asked for a briefing on the FBI's response to these violent incidents and warned that letting them go unchecked could lead to widespread rioting and unrest.
