Victoria Perez hopes that any passers-by who come upon a Eucharistic procession and rosary rally in La Porte, Indiana, planned for Sunday, will join in prayer.
“This is an opportunity for our communities and parishes to come together to pray from all walks of life no matter the language or the background,” said Perez, a faith formation and youth ministry coordinator for La Porte Catholic Church. “It's something that we can all do together that doesn't need a lot of instruction or direction. We're walking with Jesus and praying the rosary.”
The La Porte procession and rosary are among some 30 planned nationwide, including Steubenville, Ohio on Saturday; Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday; Little Rock, Arkansas; on Oct. 17, Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 31; Atlanta on Saturday, Nov. 7.
“We're really hoping that this will get us back on track in terms of community outreach,” Perez told the American Catholic Tribune. “We’ve had to back off because of the pandemic. There have been a few protests in our small town so, hopefully, the procession will shed a good light on the power of prayer within the community.”
The nonpartisan and family-focused event combines three parishes and is part of the nationwide movement Unite Our Nation and Rosary Coast to Coast.
"This is a great opportunity, not just for the children, but also for the community," Perez said in an interview. "We are a cluster. We have three parishes that are working to function as one. We are a multicultural cluster as well."
The three parishes include St Joseph Catholic Church, St. Peter Catholic Church and Sacred Heart.
“This is a show of how amazing the power of prayer is and walking the streets with Jesus is a display of our faith,” Perez said. “It’s nothing to be ashamed or to shy away from.”
As previously reported, the procession will begin at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 109 C St. and will stop at five locations to pray for various demographics, including St. Peter’s Church, La Porte City Hall, La Porte County Courthouse, La Porte Hospital and Boston Middle School.
Perez is advising participants to bring an umbrella in case it rains or drizzles.
“We are going to do this rain or shine,” she said. “We didn’t promote a rain date. Umbrellas are key and having a good attitude about it.”

“We haven't done a Eucharistic precession in a couple of years so we are all really excited,” Perez said. “This is definitely something that is needed during a time like this. We’re very ready.”
