Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School in west Wichita recently dedicated a new playground and refurbished sports fields, a project closely tied to the memory of Aaron Snook, a contractor and longtime parish member who died in December 2024.
Aaron Snook’s widow, Meagan Snook, and his mother, Linda Snook Davison, spoke at the dedication ceremony held on September 18 for playground benefactors. Linda said, “Aaron had a way of getting things done. He generally knew how to fix something, but if he didn’t, he knew a guy.” She added, “We always joked that he had a guy for everything. It is obvious that all of you are his guys.”
Meagan noted that Aaron was known for forming strong personal connections. After his passing, friends compiled a book of memories about him. “I have been reading through it and didn’t realize how many people he touched,” she said. “He was larger than life and made his presence known whenever he walked into a room.” Meagan also described the continued support from the community: “People tell me on the 14th of each month that they’re praying for me. They still reach out and ask if they can help me with the kids or something else.”
Meagan explained that she was aware of ongoing fundraising efforts to replace aging playground equipment and regrade the sports field at the school where her children attend. Following Aaron’s death in a hunting accident, establishing a memorial fund for these improvements seemed appropriate given his connection to the parish.
Initially focused on updating playground equipment, contributions quickly grew to allow for broader upgrades. Chris Snook and Kurt Cornejo coordinated the expanded effort. Linda recalled logistical challenges during construction: “It was like trying to fit puzzle pieces together. Where can we fit in an artificial turf field and a gaga ball pit? It took lots of coordination that began as soon as school let out (for the summer).” She also noted that significant work was required on the softball field: “The infield on the softball field was so low they had to haul in 10 loads of dirt. We got it all level by May.”
Despite weather delays over an unusually wet Kansas summer, construction continued steadily until completion.
According to Linda and Meagan Snook, the new recreational area will benefit both students at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and local residents alike. Meagan concluded by saying, “We are such a special diocese. This highlights the stewardship way of life.”
