Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has reached out to the Jewish community with a letter expressing good wishes for their celebration of Passover. He conveyed solidarity with the people of the Catholic Church in Philadelphia.
The archbishop's message emphasized the significance of the Passover holiday, especially in the context of current global issues. "In these times of domestic uncertainty and ongoing violence abroad, particularly in the Holy Land, the eight-day commemoration of Pesach is a powerful reminder of the Almighty’s mercy," Pérez stated.
Pérez's letter highlighted the enduring hope that Passover symbolizes, drawing parallels to its origins in the Israelites' freedom from slavery in Egypt. This message of hope, Pérez suggested, resonates with people of faith both locally in Philadelphia and globally.
Quoting Pope Francis, Pérez shared, “May the Almighty bless and accompany the journey of the beloved Jewish people. May the Most High allow us to grow ever more in friendship and to be witnesses of peace and harmony.”
Archbishop Pérez closed his letter with a prayer for blessings, peace, and hope for the Jewish community during this Passover season.
Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez continues to serve as the Archbishop of Philadelphia.
