DePaul University and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science are introducing a direct admission program that offers students a streamlined path from undergraduate studies into health science degrees, spanning fields such as medicine, physician assistant practice, physical therapy, and pharmacy.
This initiative allows incoming undergraduates to apply to both institutions simultaneously, securing direct admission to Rosalind Franklin University upon meeting the necessary academic criteria.
Stephanie Dance-Barnes, dean of DePaul’s College of Science and Health, emphasized the program's benefits: “The process of applying to medical school can be incredibly stressful for students. This direct admission program will not only attract top-tier students, but also provide them with a clear and structured pathway into their chosen healthcare careers. By reducing uncertainty, we are empowering students to focus on their studies and prepare for impactful futures in healthcare — fields that offer both financial stability and social mobility.”
The partnership seeks to bolster healthcare education amid increasing demand. DePaul's curriculum centers on critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while Rosalind Franklin University offers early clinical exposure and interprofessional care training, enhancing students' understanding of the healthcare experience.
Nancy L. Parsley, RFU Provost, noted, “RFU is working with trusted health systems and academic partners, like DePaul, to build the health workforce capacity our region needs. Our two institutions share a strong commitment to improving the health of communities by educating highly trained, compassionate, and practice-ready professionals who will thrive in rapidly changing healthcare environments."
This new program builds upon a decade-long partnership, including the 2012 Pathways Honors Program, which provided pre-professional advising and research opportunities. Participants will also benefit from RFU's extensive clinical partnerships throughout Chicago. The direct admission program aims to equip students for the demands of graduate health professions and to support their success by offering tailored research opportunities.
The program's first cohort will commence in fall 2026, with applications available through the Common App and further information on DePaul's website.
