Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is set to host its annual Jazz Band Concert, featuring young musicians from Catholic elementary and high schools in a combined performance. Scheduled for April 5, 2025, at Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia, the event will showcase students from both Archdiocesan and private schools across the five-county region.
Eighteen students from various elementary schools, including Corpus Christi Parish School, Good Shepherd Catholic Regional School, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School, will perform under the direction of guest conductor Allison Kershner. The pieces they will play include "Blues Infusion" arranged by Doug Beach and "Listen Here" arranged by Zachary Smith.
At the high school level, another group of eighteen students will participate, directed by guest conductor David Zagorski, Director of Bands at Nazareth Academy High School. These students represent several schools, such as Archbishop John Carroll High School and Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. Their performance will feature classics like "In the Mood" by Joe Garland, arranged by Glenn Miller.
Tickets for the event are priced at $10 and will be available at the door. Before the concert, students will take part in a daylong jazz band workshop.
"We are excited to see students from various schools come together to celebrate their musical talents," said the coordinators.
