New York - On April 1, Dr. Aleksandr Gevorkyan led a group of thirteen St. John's University students to visit the New York editorial office of the Financial Times (FT). Students had the opportunity to meet with the paper’s leading journalists and staff. The event was moderated by Robert Armstrong, FT’s US financial commentator and former US Financial editor. The group also met with Kirsty Devine, FT’s Head of U.S. HR, and Rebecca Garfinkel, FT’s Customer Success Specialists Lead. St. John's University offers a Financial Times subscription service for students to enhance their academic experience.
"In addition to the educational aspect, these visits turn into an interesting and unexpected career path for some," shared Dr. Gevorkyan, Ph.D., Henry George Chair in Economics. "Many of these professional journalists come from a variety of educational backgrounds - and an economics degree certainly prepares our students to ask the important questions."
The Economics department is also planning a trip to the United Nations and preparing to host this semester's Henry George lecture on April 14.
