Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly is hosting a 24-hour retreat titled "The Power of a Praying Mother" on May 9-10. The event is being organized by the Women at the Well apostolate, led by Natalie Gifford and Kristin Schiff. The retreat is intended to provide women with spiritual tools to pray for their families, focusing on Marian devotion and the wisdom of saintly mothers.
Participants will be guided by the words of Jesus: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Kristin Schiff emphasized the retreat's intention, stating, “The heart of this retreat is the ‘Power of a Praying Mother’ fueled by scripture and the saints. We will dig deep into Marian devotion and the lives of saints as our guide to be powerful intercessors for our families.”
The retreat begins on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and wraps up on Saturday with Mass followed by a 6 p.m. supper. Activities will include guided reflections, prayer, and spiritual renewal, along with Mass, Eucharistic adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Women at the Well, established by Natalie Gifford, focuses on faith and community building among Catholic women. The apostolate has been active for over ten years, supporting women through small groups, events, and parish ministries.
