Catholic Charities of Louisville is preparing for its annual Mardi Gras celebration on March 4 at the Mellwood Arts Center. The event aims to attract around 500 participants, offering an opportunity to learn about the agency's work while enjoying a festive atmosphere.

Lisa DeJaco Crutcher, CEO of Catholic Charities, emphasized the dual purpose of the gathering: “We want people to know about what we do,” she said. “And we want people to know there is joy in helping others. This is not a seated dinner with a hard ask. Our event is a party; it’s a party with a purpose.” The celebration serves as both an appreciation for current supporters and an invitation for others to engage with the organization.

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre has extended his invitation to the community, highlighting the significance of Rouler: “Rouler is a wonderful event that supports the work of Catholic Charities of Louisville,” he stated. “The proceeds will benefit the essential programs that help our most vulnerable neighbors and provide hope for those in need.”

DeJaco Crutcher expressed that joy can be found in charitable work akin to Mardi Gras festivities. She explained, “With any of our programs, you can look at it two ways. You can look at it as a story of sadness, or you can look at it as a joy — helping people get what they need. We want to focus on the joy.”

She also mentioned how recent executive orders have impacted their operations: “We are not expecting to welcome new arrivals anytime soon,” referring to changes in refugee resettlement processes. However, ongoing support remains crucial for approximately 8,000 refugees already within their care.

Highlighting Rouler's importance as a fundraiser, DeJaco Crutcher noted its contribution toward unrestricted funds: "Unrestricted funds are the hardest to raise," she said.

Tickets for Rouler are priced at $100 each and available through cclou.org/mardigras2025. The event will feature casino-style games, live music, New Orleans-style food and drinks, and a silent auction from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., hosted by emcee Dawne Gee.
