Today marks the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and as part of the pro-life March for Life demonstration, the U.S. Senate is set to vote on the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act. The bill, spearheaded by Senators James Lankford and Jim Banks with support from Majority Leader John Thune, aims to ensure that infants born alive after failed abortions receive medical care equivalent to any other newborn.

Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate floor stating, “This straightforward bill simply states that a baby born alive after an attempted abortion is entitled to the same protection and medical care that any other newborn baby is entitled to. This vote will ask Democrats to answer whether a living baby born after an attempted abortion should be provided with medical care or be left to die. It shouldn’t be a hard question.”

The legislative effort has faced opposition in past sessions where Senate Democrats filibustered and House Democrats, under Nancy Pelosi's leadership, denied over 80 requests for a vote from pro-life Republicans.

Additionally, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued a statement ahead of this significant vote. The organization represents more than one million pro-life advocates nationwide focused on electing leaders and advocating laws aimed at ending abortion.

Rep. Ann Wagner reintroduced a companion bill in the House earlier this month.
