Dr. Timothy J. Collins, President | Walsh University
Walsh University has officially appointed Christina Paone as the Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Director. This announcement follows her tenure as Interim Vice President and Athletic Director since December 2023. Paone, a 2006 alumna of Walsh University, has been instrumental in establishing Men’s and Women’s rugby programs at the university, incorporating scholar-athletes from Notre Dame College.
Under her leadership, Walsh University expanded its partnership with Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine to enhance support for its athletic programs. “We are excited to officially appoint Christina as Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Director,” stated Walsh University President Tim Collins. “She has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, a commitment to scholar-athletes, and the ability to drive the athletics program forward.”
In her new role, Paone will manage Walsh's 27 intercollegiate sports teams. Her responsibilities include overseeing coaching staff, budgets, compliance with Title IX regulations, athletic facilities management, game operations, fundraising efforts, media communications related to athletics, sports medicine services, and strength conditioning programs.
Paone joined Walsh University in 2011 as Head Coach for Women’s golf before expanding her oversight to both Men’s and Women’s golf programs. Her tenure saw significant achievements such as leading the Women's team to their first NCAA Regional Championships appearance.
Beyond her duties at Walsh University, Paone contributes actively within the athletics community by serving on various committees including the NCAA DII Championships Committee and others related to golf advisory roles. She also holds a position as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics.
A former scholar-athlete herself during her time at Walsh University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in 2006; Paone was part of the university's inaugural intercollegiate golf team that competed at NAIA National Championships.
Walsh University anticipates continued growth under Paone's leadership as she builds upon her legacy within their athletics department.
