A judge in Jackson County, Missouri, has made a decision affecting Amendment 3, which was approved by 51% of voters in November. The amendment is at the center of a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood. The organization behind the amendment reportedly outspent its opponents by an 8:1 ratio.
In response to the judge's ruling, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued a statement through Sue Liebel, state affairs director. Liebel stated that prior to Election Day, "voters were told pro-abortion amendments would safeguard ‘a decision between a woman and her doctor’ and ‘protect women’s lives.’ But now we see the exact opposite." She described the initiative as a "trojan horse" aimed at removing basic health regulations intended to protect women and unborn children.
The lawsuit from Planned Parenthood targets several areas including hospital admission agreements, licensing requirements, informed consent procedures, and measures preventing discriminatory abortions based on race, gender, or Down syndrome diagnoses. It also challenges the requirement for doctors to be involved in abortions.
Liebel expressed gratitude towards Attorney General Bailey for his efforts in protecting Missouri's women and children from what she termed as "deceptive lies of the abortion industry." She remains hopeful for future pro-life victories in Missouri.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is an organization with over one million members nationwide focused on ending abortion through political advocacy and promoting pro-life legislation.
