The Vatican has announced the appointment of five new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Chicago by Pope Francis. The bishops-elect are Timothy J. O'Malley, Lawrence J. Sullivan, José María Garcia-Maldonado, Robert M. Fedek, and John S. Siemianowski. Their episcopal ordination will be held at Holy Name Cathedral in early 2025, with a specific date yet to be confirmed.

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, expressed gratitude for the appointments: “We are grateful to the Holy Father for the gift of these new auxiliary bishops,” he said. He highlighted their commitment to pastoral service and dedication to the Gospel.

Bishop-elect Timothy J. O’Malley was born in Evergreen Park and has served in various parishes since his ordination in 1997. He is currently serving as pastor of Most Blessed Trinity Parish in Waukegan.

Bishop-elect Lawrence J. Sullivan was born in Chicago and ordained in 1992. He has been involved with bereavement ministries and serves on several archdiocesan boards.

Bishop-elect José María Garcia-Maldonado was born in Mexico and joined his family in the United States before entering seminary training in Chicago. Ordained in 2008, he is currently pastor at St. Jose Sanchez del Rio Parish.

Bishop-elect Robert M. Fedek was born in Poland and moved to Chicago for his theological studies before being ordained in 2005. He currently serves as administrative secretary to Cardinal Cupich.

Bishop-elect John S. Siemianowski is a native of Chicago and was ordained in 1989 after completing his studies at Mundelein Seminary. He is presently serving as pastor at St. Juliana Parish.

These appointments reflect a blend of diverse backgrounds and extensive pastoral experience within the Archdiocese of Chicago.
