Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has reached out to the Jewish community with a letter on the occasion of Hanukkah. He expressed his and the Catholic community's best wishes for the Festival of Lights, emphasizing its significance in a time marked by global uncertainty and conflict, particularly in the Holy Land.
"The Hanukkah menorah reminds us of the ultimate triumph of light over darkness," Archbishop Pérez wrote. He noted that each candle lit during Hanukkah symbolizes "enduring hope fueled by faith."
The archbishop also reflected on the historical event commemorated during Hanukkah, stating, "As you recall the glory of the Temple’s rededication by Judas Maccabeus centuries ago, may the glow of the menorah fill you with joy as you strengthen the loving bonds of faith, family, and friends."
