Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, has announced the passing of Reverend Daniel S. Murphy, a retired priest from the Diocese of Brooklyn. Father Murphy was born on October 27, 1944, in New York and was ordained to the Priesthood on May 30, 1970. He passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Father Murphy dedicated his service to the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor at Saint Saviour (Brooklyn), Holy Child Jesus (Richmond Hill), and Saint Andrew the Apostle (Brooklyn). He also served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady Help of Christians (Brooklyn), Resurrection-Ascension (Rego Park), Saint Brigid (Brooklyn), and Saint Mary Star of the Sea (Far Rockaway). Additionally, he was Chaplain at Saint Saviour High School and Stella Maris High School and served as team Chaplain for the New York Mets.

The arrangements for Father Murphy are scheduled as follows:

The wake will be held at Joseph P. Clavin Sons, Inc., located at 7722 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. The visitation hours are Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

A vigil mass is planned for Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Saint Saviour R.C. Church on Eighth Avenue in Brooklyn. The funeral mass will take place at the same church on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM.

Father Murphy will be laid to rest at Saint John Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.

He was a member of the Priests’ Purgatorial Society. The community is asked to pray for his soul's repose and offer condolences to his family and friends. Condolences can be sent to his sister Mrs. Kathleen Bernegger at her address in Holliston, Massachusetts.
