His education included preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West. He was ordained on May 27, 1961, by Archbishop Karl J. Father Bader's first assignment came on June 16, 1961, as assistant pastor of St. Columban Parish in Loveland. He later served as assistant pastor at St. Antoninus Parish from September 4, 1968, and as assistant chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital starting June 9, 1970. Further appointments included assistant pastor at St. Ann Parish and chaplain of the St. Vincent de Paul Council in Hamilton.

On November 15, 1977, Father Bader became pastor of St. Ann Parish and was named Dean of the Hamilton Deanery from July 1, 1983, to February 1986. He then served as pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish beginning June 23, 1986, and later took up the role of pastor at St. William Parish from July 15, 1998; he was re-appointed there on July 16, 2004.

Father Bader retired from active ministry on July 1, 2005.

The reception for Father Bader will be held on December 13 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Cincinnati with Very Reverend Jan K. Schmidt serving as Celebrant and Homilist during visitation until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Reverend Alexander C. McCullough.

Burial will follow at Saint Joseph New Cemetery with Deacon Matthew Skinner presiding over the service.

"May God welcome Father Bader... into the glory of heaven," concludes a message inviting prayers for his eternal peace.
