The Archdiocese of Chicago is set to host its 12th annual Keep Hope Alive fundraiser on Monday, December 9, 2024. The event will take place at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and aims to support Pastoral Migratoria, a ministry focused on immigrant-led initiatives both locally and nationally. This year's theme is "Accompanying Our Neighbors."

Cardinal Blase Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, emphasized the significance of welcoming immigrants during the Advent season. He stated, “During the Advent season, we are reminded of how our migrant sisters and brothers reflect the image of the Holy Family and how we are to welcome Christ in our neighbors.” Cardinal Cupich also expressed pleasure in acknowledging leaders who have contributed to integrating immigrants into communities.

Remarks will be made by Cardinal Cupich on the role of immigrant lay leaders within parish communities. Elena Segura, senior coordinator, will discuss the ministry's achievements over the past year. The event's co-chairs include Fr. Larry Dowling and Hillary and Matthew Ebach. Entertainment will feature performances by the Polonia Folk Song & Dance Ensemble and the Holy Cross Marimba Ensemble.

Since its inception in 2008 within the Archdiocese of Chicago, Pastoral Migratoria has expanded to other dioceses including New York, Baltimore, Stockton (California), and Kansas City-Saint Joseph (Missouri). In 2025, it plans to launch in Orange (California) and Newark (New Jersey).

Pastoral Migratoria serves as a national model for supporting both undocumented and documented immigrants while promoting community integration based on Gospel values. It aligns with Pope Francis’s call in "Fratelli Tutti" for a universal culture of encounter that fosters charity.

The Archdiocese has been advocating for immigration reform since May 2005 through its involvement with the Catholic Campaign for Immigration Reform established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
