Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, has announced the passing of Reverend Monsignor Philip J. Reilly, a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Monsignor Reilly was born on June 21, 1934, in New York and was ordained to the Priesthood on May 28, 1960. He passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Throughout his service in the Diocese of Brooklyn, Monsignor Reilly held several positions including Chaplain at the Monastery of the Precious Blood in Brooklyn, Faculty and Principal at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Elmhurst, and Parochial Vicar at Saint Teresa Parish in South Ozone Park and Saint Thomas More – Saint Edmund Parish in Rockaway Point. He resided at Ozanam Hall in Bayside, New York.
The arrangements for Monsignor Reilly's services are as follows:
- A wake will be held at Immaculate Conception Center located at 7200 Douglaston Parkway Douglaston, New York on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
- The vigil mass will take place later that day at the same location starting at 7:00 PM.
- The funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, December 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM also at Immaculate Conception Center.
- Burial will follow at Saint John Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
Monsignor Reilly was part of the Priests’ Purgatorial Society. "Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family and friends," stated Reverend Monsignor Steven J. Aguggia.
