Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, has announced the passing of Reverend Peter D. Gillen, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Father Gillen was born on August 10, 1951, in New York and was ordained to the Priesthood on February 11, 1978. He passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Father Gillen served as Pastor at several parishes including Saint Brendan in Brooklyn, Corpus Christi in Woodside, and Saint Rose of Lima in Rockaway Beach. His service also included roles as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Brooklyn, Saint Francis of Assisi in Astoria, American Martyrs in Bayside, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Ridgewood, and Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary & Saint Stephen in Brooklyn. Additionally, he served as a transitional Deacon at Saints Simon and Jude Parish in Brooklyn and ministered as Director of Devotion to the Sacred Heart.

The wake will be held at Saint Brendan R.C. Church located at 1525 East 12th Street, Brooklyn, New York. The phone number is (718) 339-2828. Visitation hours are Wednesday, July 24 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, July 25 from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
A Vigil Mass will take place on Thursday, July 25 at 7:00 PM at the same location.
The Funeral Mass is set for Friday, July 26 at 11:00 AM at Saint Brendan R.C. Church.
Burial will follow at Saint John Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
Father Gillen was a member of the Priests’ Purgatorial Society. The community is asked to pray for his soul's repose and offer consolation to his family and friends during this time. Condolences can be sent to his sister Ms. Marie Gillen at her address: 72-28 66 Drive, Middle Village, New York.
