Deacon Frederick J. Haas, Jr., a dedicated deacon of the Archdiocese, passed away on October 27, 2024, at the age of 81. Ordained by Archbishop Joseph Bernardin for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on September 26, 1976, Deacon Fred was part of the first permanent ordination cohort in the Archdiocese. He served as a permanent deacon for forty-eight years.

Following his ordination, Deacon Fred began his service at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in Westwood. In 1979, he moved to St. Ignatius Parish in Cincinnati and later to St. Leo Parish and St. Bonaventure Parish in Cincinnati in 1999 and 2000 respectively. His most recent assignment was at St. Thomas More Parish in Withamsville from 2006 onwards.

He is survived by his wife Linda, with whom he shared a marriage of 56 years; three children and their spouses; and six grandchildren. Their son Matthew Haas predeceased him.

The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., taking place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church located at 800 Ohio Pike, Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral arrangements are being managed by E.C. Nurre Funeral Home situated at 177 W. Main Street Amelia, OH. The full obituary can be accessed on the funeral home’s website.
