The University of Dallas is set to host its third annual Teaching and Learning Conference on January 21, 2025. Organized by the eLearning Department and the Center for Teaching and Learning, this year's theme is "Architects of Education: How Best to Unlock Student Potential." Professor of Physics Richard Olenick, PhD, will deliver the opening address. Faculty members are encouraged to submit presentation proposals by December 4.
For the first time, outside academic collaborators will be able to participate as speakers if they co-present with a UDallas faculty member. The conference will also feature a plenary event titled "The Mandela Architecture," which includes four theatrical scenes paired with work sessions. This method is based on neuro-dramatic learning pioneered by social scientist Jacob Moreno.
"This conference is more than just a training ground, more than just professional development," says Ana Babb-Henriquez, an academic adviser and adjunct instructor. "This conference is a venue for positive and meaningful interactions among colleagues, a place for conversation, troubleshooting and encouragement."
Established by Wendy Clayton, MEd, director of instructional design and educational services, with support from Associate Provost John Norris, PhD, the conference has seen growing popularity. Last January's event was attended by over 80 faculty members.
"We have had great interest from the faculty to hear from each other about their best practices," says Norris. "I think the event serves to inspire and challenge faculty in an atmosphere of joy and shared vocation."
Faculty interested in participating can register and submit proposals through the conference website.
