The male vocal ensemble Floriani is set to perform a sacred music concert on Tuesday, November 19, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Steubenville, Ohio. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and is co-sponsored by St. Peter’s Catholic Church along with Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Sacred Music Department and Fine Arts Society.
Floriani is known as a men's ensemble committed to serving the Catholic Church and promoting cultural preservation through sacred music. Their upcoming concert titled “In Paradisum: O Death, Where Is Thy Sting?” takes its inspiration from a Requiem Mass traditionally offered for the deceased. The event will include traditional chanted pieces like “Requiem in aeternum” and “Pie Jesu,” alongside devotional songs such as “Wayfaring Stranger” and “Nearer My God to Thee.”
The concert is open to the public without charge, although free-will donations are welcome.
Thomas Quackenbush, a member of Floriani, has recently joined the faculty of Franciscan University’s sacred music department. Additionally, in the spring semester, students will have access to a new course focused on chant, providing an opportunity to explore this ancient form of music further.
