Reverend Larry Silva, Bishop | Diocese of Honolulu
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is set to receive support from the Diocese of Hawaii through a special collection on November 17, coinciding with the World Day of the Poor. This year's theme draws inspiration from Sirach 21:5. The campaign aims to empower those experiencing poverty by fostering their active participation in addressing this complex issue and promoting a just society.
A significant portion, specifically 25%, of the funds collected within the diocese will remain in Hawaii. These contributions are earmarked for initiatives that tackle local poverty challenges. Past allocations have supported various community efforts, such as aiding houseless survivors of natural disasters, providing transitional housing and job training for formerly incarcerated or homeless women, and assisting non-profit organizations in helping low-income families secure affordable housing.
Bishop Silva encourages parishioners to contribute generously to the CCHD collection as an expression of faith and commitment to building a just world. "I strongly encourage all to give generously to the CCHD collection as a way of giving witness to Jesus, responding to the prayer of the poor by building a world with justice for all," he stated.
