Benedictine University recently celebrated its Homecoming Week with a series of events that engaged students, faculty, staff, and families. The week began with an ice cream social in Goodwin Hall on Monday.
On Tuesday night, the program titled “The Call to Holiness in the 21st Century: Wisdom of the Saints for Today” featured Mass led by Fr. Ivan Carrillo. This was followed by dinner and a panel discussion focusing on the relevance of saints in modern life. The panel included three notable authors: Jon M. Sweeney, Stephen Kokx, and Fr. Augustine Wetta.
The event attracted students, alumni, faculty, staff, and guests and was sponsored by The Sister Judith Ann Heble, OSB Center for Benedictine Values with support from Mr. and Mrs. Daniel F. Rigby.
Margaret (Saul) Gitter ('96), a Benedictine alumna, presented "Hope through Horses" as part of Journeys in Leadership during the week. Gitter is known for founding Mane Trail Stables in 2012 and her expertise as an equine specialist over two decades. Her work focuses on using horses for therapeutic purposes in mental health treatment.
Gitter also attended the Homecoming game on Saturday with her horses to demonstrate their therapeutic benefits to the community.
Thursday's activities included a picnic in the quad for students, faculty, and staff. On Friday, festivities continued with music and an Alumni Art show at the Komechak Gallery in Kindlon. The class of '75 was honored at the Golden Eagle Dinner held at Coal Ben.
The week concluded with the Homecoming Tailgate presented by University Advancement, which brought together alumni from various classes along with current students and staff to celebrate Benedictine University's traditions.
