Totus Tuus, a weeklong faith-based program, was hosted by 14 parishes across the diocese this past summer. The initiative aimed to help children understand Catholic faith and deepen their relationship with God. Activities included daily Mass, confession, learning the Rosary mysteries, eucharistic adoration, and Bible reading. These were combined with games and skits to keep children engaged.

“I like the whole thing very much,” said Natalie L., a 7-year-old participant.

“It’s a fun time to get to be with friends and to serve Mass,” added Brendan L., aged 10.

Carol L., 13 years old, noted that they performed skits for other children who found it enjoyable. Anna L., 15 years old, appreciated seeing other teens involved in similar activities her family enjoys.

This year saw participation from 1,082 children—an increase of over 300 from the previous summer. Ten college-aged missionaries formed teams that traveled weekly to different parishes within the diocese to lead the program.

“Out of all of the summer activities my children are involved in such as sports camps and summer camps, they enjoy their week at Totus Tuus more than anything else,” said Ashley E., a parent.

“My daughter looks forward to Totus Tuus every year. She loves meeting the Totus Tuus team,” said Renea H., another parent.

The parishes hosting Totus Tuus included Mother of Perpetual Help (Maryville), St. Katharine Drexel (Springfield), St. Isidore (Dieterich), among others. The Office of Vocations for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois organized Totus Tuus and hopes for three missionary teams next year to enable more parishes to participate.

Stay tuned next spring and summer for sign-up opportunities for Totus Tuus.
