Author and CEO Pat McMillan emphasized the importance of communication, stating, “Excellent communication doesn’t just happen naturally. It is a product of process, skill, climate, relationship, and hard work.”

Stefani Everson-Phillips has been dedicated to improving her communication skills for over two decades. Her experience spans classrooms, TV studios, radio stations, and the state's largest school district. Christian Brothers University (CBU) recently appointed her as Director of Communications.

“At CBU, I have the opportunity to enhance my skills and talents on a university level, contributing to the university’s mission while making a meaningful impact,” said Everson-Phillips. She joined the Department of Communications and Marketing in August. “CBU’s commitment to excellence and its supportive community provide the perfect environment to grow both personally and professionally.”

Everson-Phillips previously worked in K-12 public education. After six years at ABC24 and Time Warner Cable, she moved to Memphis City Schools to teach broadcast journalism at the high school level. Later, she held various roles in the district's central office within the Communications and Broadcast Services Department. As general manager of the district's TV and radio stations (88.5FM and C19TV), she managed 13 staff members with a $1 million budget and led media relations during the merger of Memphis City Schools with Shelby County Schools.

Vice President of Advancement & Alumni Ryan Flickinger commented on her role: “We recognize the need for an updated strategic communications plan to guide the university’s work forward. Stefani has been brought in to lead this effort and ensure our story is being told.” He added that “CBU is a special place” and noted Everson-Phillips' quick integration into their team as a valued leader who understands their mission.

Before joining CBU, Everson-Phillips was Director of External Communications for Memphis-Shelby County Schools. There she managed marketing, media relations, public relations, bilingual communications, and social media.

Tutonial Williams, former Interim Superintendent and CFO of Memphis-Shelby County Schools praised her: “Stefani is one of the best communications professionals I have had the privilege to work with.” Williams highlighted her ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders including media partners and internal teams.

Everson-Phillips grew up in an Air Force family living in Washington D.C., and Crete, Greece. She enjoys traveling with her husband Leon, their children, and her parents who inspired her love for education and travel.

She holds a bachelor's degree in Communication and Fine Arts from the University of Memphis along with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Her office is located in St. Joseph Hall at CBU.
