Iona University Expands Scholarship for First Responders Pursuing Graduate Degrees

Aug 20, 2024

New Rochelle and Bronxville, N.Y. – Iona University has announced an expanded scholarship program for first responders seeking to advance their education through graduate studies. The initiative offers a 20 percent tuition discount to eligible students.

The First Responder, Medical and Safety Personnel Scholarship provides significant tuition reductions for active and retired first responders. Additionally, admitted students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive an extra 5 percent discount from the Edmund Rice Scholarship, totaling a 25 percent tuition reduction.

“Iona is proud to support those who have devoted themselves to the safety and well-being of our communities,” said Iona President Seamus Carey, Ph.D. “This scholarship is an extension of our mission to provide opportunities for lifelong learning and professional growth, enabling first responders to transition into new careers or enhance their current roles through advanced education.”

Scholarships are available for various graduate degree programs including the Master of Business Administration with six concentrations. This scholarship is particularly beneficial for first responders looking to transition into new careers or advance within their current field.

With growing demand for leadership in various sectors, this scholarship provides a pathway for first responders to leverage their unique skills and experiences while gaining new knowledge and core competencies.

Inspired by Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, Iona is committed to providing transformative yet affordable education. The university supports numerous scholarships and grants that do not require repayment.

To qualify, applicants must be active or retired first responders, medical or safety personnel, and meet the admission requirements of the relevant graduate program. The scholarship is renewable each semester/trimester contingent upon maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and providing proof of current employment or retirement from their agency by specified deadlines.
