Marie Miller, a young Catholic artist, recently debuted her new album "The Way of Love," which features five folk songs that explore the spiritual journeys individuals undertake in their search for God. The album is inspired by Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and aims to convey a prayerful journey of self-discovery and love.
In an interview with the New Outlook at the Catholic Media Association conference in Georgia, Miller reflected on her lifelong passion for music. "I have loved performing since I was a little girl," she said. Her career began at 16 when she signed with Curb Records after visiting Nashville's Music Row.
Navigating the secular music scene posed challenges for Miller, despite her success. "It was definitely challenging in other ways. My songs were on MTV and VH1, which was really cool, but I would not want to suggest watching those channels," she noted.
Miller’s previous work primarily focused on personal experiences such as heartbreaks and friendships. However, her latest album shifts focus towards faith and spirituality. Raised in a devout Catholic family, Miller’s faith became more personal during her teenage years when she began attending Eucharistic Adoration regularly.
Her song "Sweet Company" is particularly significant during this time of Eucharistic Revival. It draws inspiration from a letter by J.R.R. Tolkien to his son about the importance of the Blessed Sacrament.
Miller had the opportunity to perform for Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia, an experience she described as both fun and a gift. She feels connected to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, who inspired much of her recent work. "Even when we fall and even when we fail, God will use that brokenness in us to pave a way towards Him," she explained.
Miller’s Catholic faith deeply influences her music, especially evident in "The Way of Love." She finds it fulfilling to write about religious themes rather than personal stories. "The gift of this music is that it is totally Catholic," she said.
She advises young adults to cultivate accountability with good friends and develop a daily prayer life, emphasizing the importance of staying connected with one's faith through regular practices like Mass and Holy Hour.
Catholics and music fans are encouraged to listen to Miller’s new album available on all music outlets. Information about booking Marie Miller can be found at www.mariemillermusic.com.
