Rev. James D. Conley, D.D., S.T.L. | Diocese of Lincoln website
Both men and women are invited to Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House near Waverly from August 9-11 for a weekend deliverance and healing retreat. The “Unbound: Freedom in Christ” retreat aims to open hearts more fully to Jesus’ invitation of living an abundant life. The event is designed to allow God’s healing love to address spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional wounds.
“The retreat will be an opportunity to encounter Christ, to experience the healing of Christ, who comes to reunite us with the Father,” explained Father Coulter. “Jesus’ ministry was one of healing, one of deliverance. We can encounter the overwhelming love of God who can enter into the pains and wounds of life.”
Father Coulter emphasized that wounds can include feeling lost in faith, anxiety, and hopelessness. He stated that Jesus wants everyone to experience true freedom from such wounds and that attending the retreat can help participants find the healing they seek.
The retreat is based on Neal Lozano's book “Unbound: A Practical Guide to Deliverance” and employs five "keys" for profound conversion and greater freedom: Repentance and Faith, Forgiveness, Renunciation, Command, and the Father’s Blessing. More information about Unbound ministry is available at lincolndiocese.org/unbound.
Prayer teams from the Unbound ministry will be present at the retreat to pray with participants using these five keys. Attendees are encouraged to read the first nine chapters of Lozano's book if they wish for a ministry team member to pray with them.
Father Coulter has served as director of Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House for 11 years. Ordained as a priest in 1999, he holds a Canon Law degree from Santa Croce University in Rome and served as pastor in Ashland and Greenwood for nine years. He noted that he has personally experienced the benefits of Unbound and wishes to share them with others.
