WASHINGTON — Today, the American Principles Project (APP) released a new report titled “The Gender Industrial Complex,” which provides research into the size and scope of the transgender medical industry. The report includes data collected by Grand View Research in a project commissioned by APP, detailing the estimated $4.4 billion market for transgender hormones and surgeries. It also analyzes the costs of various drugs and procedures, as well as identifying pharmaceutical companies and medical providers with significant financial investments in these areas.
APP President Terry Schilling commented on the report’s significance:
“Over the last decade, the provision of transgender drugs and surgeries has exploded into a multi-billion-dollar industry. Tens of thousands have become avid customers, and the market base continues to grow.
“However, this is no feel-good, commercial success story. What this industry is really selling is unfathomably harmful. Nationwide, individuals struggling with mental health issues are being encouraged down a pathway that leads to the destruction of their bodies, including chemical sterilization and physical mutilation. Meanwhile, the medical professionals engaging in this barbarity continue to cash in.
“It is vitally important that the American people see the reality of what is happening: the damage being done by these practices as well as the financial incentives which keep the industry going despite the consequences. And policymakers must recognize that we cannot afford to stand idle while the victims of this industry pile up. Although it is possible that growing liability will one day put an end to this malpractice, we should not wait for that to happen. Government action is necessary, and it cannot come a moment too soon.”
