The Supreme Court announced today it would hear a challenge to Tennessee’s law restricting sex-change drugs and procedures for minors. Oral arguments for United States v. Skrmetti are expected to take place later this year.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement:

“Over the last few years, efforts to rein in the predatory transgender industry have exploded. Twenty-four states now restrict sex-change procedures for minors, as do a number of European countries, such as Finland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. At the same time, much research has emerged showing the incredible harm caused by these procedures, and an increasing number of detransitioners have come forward to tell their stories of painful regret and permanent health problems.

“There is no question that lawmakers are well within constitutional boundaries to protect children from this dangerous malpractice. Indeed, legislators at the state and federal levels have not only the right but an obligation to act in light of this massive medical scandal. At a bare minimum, the transgender industry cannot be allowed to continue preying on children, and we are confident the Supreme Court will uphold these important laws in Tennessee and elsewhere which provide critical safeguards for kids and their families.”
