Washington, D.C. – Democrats on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will hold a hearing today addressing abortion protections following the landmark Dobbs Supreme Court decision. The hearing, titled “The Assault on Women’s Freedoms: How Abortion Bans Have Created a Health Care Nightmare Across America,” is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. EDT.
Melissa Ohden, MSW, founder and director of The Abortion Survivors Network (ASN), will testify at the hearing. Ohden is a survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion intended to end her life at approximately seven months gestation. ASN has connected with over 700 survivors of abortion procedures.
Christina Francis, M.D., a practicing board-certified OB-GYN and CEO of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, will also provide testimony. Dr. Francis brings her medical expertise and pro-life perspective from her work in various countries advocating for women and children.
Ahead of the hearing, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America criticized the Democrats' stance in a statement: "Every Democrat on the Senate HELP Committee has voted for the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, which is also backed by President Biden." The organization argues that this bill would impose unrestricted abortion access nationwide.
Multiple post-Dobbs polls indicate that at least seven in ten Americans support significant limits on abortion.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is an organization with over one million members dedicated to ending abortion through electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with an emphasis on promoting pro-life women leaders.
