The Diocesan Education Office has announced the winners of the 2024 Diocesan Education Awards. This tradition, initiated by the Diocese of Lincoln in 2022, recognizes exceptional educators within Catholic schools. The awards are presented annually at the Bishop’s Saints & Scholars Dinner, scheduled this year for Sunday, Oct. 13, in Lincoln.
All school personnel, including priests and religious members from Diocese of Lincoln schools, are eligible for these awards. Nominations were solicited from parents, teachers, administrators, and students alike. A small committee comprising clergy, religious members, and lay professionals selected the winners from the pool of nominees.
The winners for 2024 include Sr. Mary Alma from St. James School in Crete who won the St. Thomas Aquinas Award (Administrator of the Year). Her nomination stated: “My children have the privilege of attending St. James Elementary School in Crete where Sister Mary Alma is the principal and I’ve watched them grow in their love of Christ by following her example of tenderness, love and humility.”

Linda Kirkendall from Sacred Heart School in Falls City was awarded the St. John Cantius Award (Secondary Educator of the Year). One nomination for her read: “She has been the most impactful educator I have ever had in my 14 years of education. She teaches you grammar and English, but her life teachings go above and beyond.”
